Wind

The UK benefits from an exceptionally high wind resource. Wind turbines vary in size from micro turbines generating energy to be used on site up to large turbines exporting energy in to the transmission network.

Wind turbines are popular with farmers and land owners due to their very small land footprint – maximising the land still available for agricultural use. In terms of electricity production turbines produce more power when it is required locally, such as on stormy winter evenings.

Whether you are interested in a small domestic turbine (less than 50kW) or a larger medium sized development (from 50kW – 2MW), Seren Energy can help identify the potential of your site and realise it. We carry out all aspects of wind turbine site development from initial identification and resource assessment through planning to installation and grid connection.

What Our Client’s Say

Carmarthenshire Energy Ltd

Company: Carmarthenshire Energy Ltd
Project: Community wind turbine, Carmarthenshire
Outcome: Planning consent for a single community owned wind turbine project

Carmarthenshire Energy Limited is a Community Benefit Society working to combat fuel poverty and generate clean energy.

With the help of Seren Energy, we have just completed construction of our first community-owned turbine which will create income for a community benefit fund worth approximately £1.3m that the residents of Carmarthenshire will be able to apply to for low carbon projects.

Seren Energy have been with us every step of the way – from site selection, to project management and now through to the operations and maintenance phase. They gave us both the assistance and the confidence to realise our goal of building the first community energy project in Carmarthenshire.

Our organisation is run by volunteer Directors and we would have been completely lost without Seren’s technical knowledge and expertise, experience with planners and public consultations and, generally, the support they provided. Communication was excellent – regular and clear (even for those of us with limited energy knowledge) – and we always felt assured that our project was in safe, professional hands. Their attention to detail as project managers also saved us money on many occasions during and after the build, which meant more for the community fund.

Having worked with Seren on several other projects, including the development of a hydro power scheme and site assessments for projects in partnership with the County Council, we can recommend them as a fantastic company to employ if you are considering an energy project.

Project: Wind turbine development, Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire
Outcome: Planning consent for a single community owned wind turbine project

We worked with Seren for several years on a community benefit project.  With complete understanding of our community group’s need to understand the process, the Seren team were always so willing to guide us through each step, patiently allowing us to learn a lot along the way.

Their work was always done to a very high standard, and always with immense good will with no scrimping on professionalism.  We had complete confidence that they were doing their very best to make our project a success, and then they’d do a bit more because Seren is made up of impeccably generous individuals who believe deeply in the logic of renewable energy and are incredibly knowledgeable about their sector.

Indeed, we felt that everyone on the end of the phone at Seren was rooting for us – everyone knew who we were when we called, and we can’t express how much that helped to motivate and support us through the disappointments… all the way through to the jubilation of finally getting the planning permission which we simply could never have achieved without Seren’s help.

Winters Lane Storage

Project: Wind turbine development, Long Sutton, Lincolnshire
Outcome: Planning consent and installation of a single wind turbine project

Winters Lane Storage is a farmer owned cooperative storing over 11,000 tonnes of prepack quality potatoes. With the potatoes being stored at +2.5 oC for up to 9 months, electricity is a substantial cost. To reduce the amount of electricity purchased, it was decided to investigate the possibility of building a wind turbine.

Seren Energy were approached and guided the project all the way from a feasibility study, gaining planning permission, to managing the installation of an 800 kW turbine. We were impressed with Seren Energy’s professionalism and efficiency in getting the project completed and can gladly recommend them.
